A Billings teen has agreed to a plea agreement for his role in a 2018 crash that killed one woman and injured another in Billings Heights.
Jacob Lane Standing Elk, 18, agreed to plead guilty to one charge of mitigated deliberate homicide and two felony counts of assault with a weapon, according to documents filed Tuesday in Yellowstone County District Court.
Standing Elk faces a minimum of two years in prison on the most serious count and a maximum of 40 years, along with a fine of up to $50,000.
Prosecutors said Standing Elk was drunk and suicidal while driving up to 120 miles per hour on Sept. 23, 2018, when he struck another vehicle, killing 20-year-old Haley Hutzenbiler and injuring another woman. He was 16 when the incident occurred.
Standing Elk is awaiting sentencing by a judge.
