BILLINGS — Former Montana Republican Gov. Marc Racicot says he is not supporting fellow Republican President Trump and will instead vote for Democratic former Vice President Joe Biden.

Racicot, also a former Republican National Committee Chairman, made his comments Tuesday on Yellowstone Public Radio's Home Ground with Brian Kahn.

Racicot said he also did not support candidate Donald Trump in 2016 and that has not changed for 2020.

"In 2016, I made it very plain in July that I couldn't vest my confidence in Donald Trump," Racicot said. "And I don't intend to vest that confidence in Donald Trump today because I have even more grave doubts than I did in 2016."

"I regret that I will cause consternation perhaps in some corners but even as a Republican, I will not be supporting Donald Trump for president. I will not be voting for him," he added.

Racicot said he will again vote for the Democratic candidate in the presidential election.

"That means that I will be voting for Joe Biden," Racicot said. "The reason that I'm doing I'm not going to march lockstep with him every step of the way or with the administration. I'll have disagreement. I'm certain."

"But in the end, the content of a man's character or a woman's character to serve in that capacity is more important than any other issue that I have to consider as a matter of conscience."

Racicot was governor of Montana from 1993 to 2001. He was chairman of the RNC from December 2001 to January 2003.
