WHITEFISH – Not every run will be open right away, but the season looks to get off to a perfect start at Whitefish Mountain Resort.
A storm system that pushed into Northwest Mountain over the weekend brought more snow to the slopes of Big Mountain than expected before it rolled out on Monday afternoon. Coupled with colder temperatures, snow conditions are shaping up perfectly.
Five chairs opened up first thing Thursday morning to all access on the north and east side of the mountain. Conditions are very good on top, but snow remains a little sparse at the lower elevations, so skiers won’t be able to reach the Base Lodge.
But snow machines are in high gear, and resort officials say with these clear conditions, the views and sun will be spectacular.
“We will be downloading all of our guests until we get more snow on the front side of the mountain, so there will not be any front-side skiing. But hopefully, by the weekend we’ll be able to open a little more terrain,” Whitefish Mountain resort spokeswoman Riley Polumbus said.
“We have snow guns running around the clock and we’re trying to get some more beginner terrain open, lower mountain stuff so, but it’s a great opening. The snow we do have is in good condition, it’ll be fun, it’s supposed to be clear and sunny and beautiful so that will be nice, so we’re just very excited to get things going again,” she added.
The last few seasons have set records for skiers at Whitefish Mountain Resort, with over 400″ of snowfall. Click here to check out the latest conditions.
