KALISPELL – Some Northwest Montana high school students recently took a tour of the Kalispell Armory to learn about what the Montana Army National Guard has to offer.

The students were greeted by virtual reality tools, Chinook helicopters and STEM classes.

Every student got hands-on experience and was able to ask questions of soldiers and the civil support team on site.

MTN News talked with Troy High School senior Michael Beers whose family has deep military history.

He’s already enlisted as a power generator mechanic in the National Guard and will be shipped out to South Carolina for training on June 11.

Beers says he was inspired by his grandfather and uncle who both served in the navy.

Always knowing he wanted to enlist, Beers has advise for those unsure about their future.

“Just follow your heart, if you want to do it follow through. If it’s not for you it’s not for you.”
