KALISPELL — State parks around the Flathead Lake are preparing for winter weather and strong winds coming into the Flathead valley.

Flathead Lake State Park Assistant Manager Allie McCurry says the anticipated winter weather is forcing multiple state parks to pull their docks out of the lake.

Over the next few days, meteorologists say Flathead Lake could see winds excess of 20 mph.

McCurry says the Flathead, Big Arm and Yellow Bay docks will come out for safety -- and for the winter season.

The West Shore dock is being pulled out of the water and officials aren't sure of the status of it or when it will return to the water.

McCurry noted that the weather on Flathead Lake can change in an instant adding that if the docks are damaged, they cost around $50,000 to repair.
