KALISPELL — Authorities have released the name of a man who drowned on Tuesday afternoon while paddle boarding in McGregor Lake.
Flathead County Sheriff Brian Heino has identified the victim as David Blaney, 66, of Marion.
Blaney was on a stand-up paddle board at approximately 3 p.m. when he fell off the board and went into the water.
Sheriff Heino says witnesses reported seeing that Blaney was unable to catch his breath and began to struggle before going below the surface of the lake.
Blaney was not wearing a life jacket at the time of the incident.
The Flathead County Dive Team, Flathead County Search and Rescue, Smith Valley Fire, and the Marion Fire Department all responded to the scene.
