WHITEFISH — Burlington Northern Santa Fe has identified and removed the source of an oil sheen that's been seen on Whitefish River.
Maia LaSalle with BNSF says crews located soil within the Whitefish River that contained minor traces of petroleum and natural gas and removed it.
A 20-foot long oil sheen was first spotted in early August.
BNSF continues to work on the shoreline to ensure any remaining traces are removed.
LaSalle says BNSF all vegetation in that area will be restored to its original condition.
