The Montana Department of Environmental Quality is warning of a toxic algae bloom in Lake Elmo in Billings.

The bloom was reported Tuesday along the east shoreline of the lake.

The bloom predominately grows in shallow, warm-water areas with lots of sunlight.

A bloom was also reported in July at Lake Josephine in Billings by Riverfront Park.

Environmental officials warn against allowing children or pets to get in water with blue-green algae.
