BUTTE - When the owners of Muddy Creek Brewery awoke on January 23 to find their building in Uptown Butte was on fire, they were devastated.

“We got the call, the alarm system went off, we came in and we were pretty much helpless and had to sit and watch,” said co-owner Gregg Wigen.

The fire gutted the Irish Times building at Galena and Main, which housed the brewing, plus The Post and Times bars. Since the fire, brewery owners received a flood of support from both Butte and state businesses, as well as members of the community.

“The people have come out in droves, and, not only have they been supportive financially, but really emotionally. They’ve been so good to us, and I can’t express enough how much we appreciate that,” said Wigen.

This has been a difficult time for the owners of this business, because all they can do now is wait for the result of the investigation. And the future? Well, that’s uncertain.

“It’s been very clear that people love Muddy Creek, so our goal obviously is to continue, but right now we just have to, we have to deal with one thing at a time,” said Wigen.

Butte Fire Chief Jeff Miller said Wednesday the cause of the fire was still under investigation.
