MISSOULA — The Southgate Mall is working with a Missoula artist to add to the outdoor spaces called The Canvas Project.

Artist Ann Karp of Sideways Gaze Art & Sign will be overseeing this project.

Ann has been painting in Montana since 2009 and has painted murals for restaurants, non-profit organizations, private homes, and stores around the state.

“Local artists make our community vibrant,” said Tim Winger, General Manager at Southgate Mall. “Their use of subjects, color, texture and composition awaken a sense of curiosity and connection to the world around us.”

Southgate Mall has worked closely with Ann Karp to create a plan for artwork that will inspire the community, inspired by the natural beauty of the Missoula valley.

Painting has already begun and the project is expected to be completed over the next few weeks.

“The Canvas Project supports our local arts culture, while providing an opportunity for our community to grow together,” said Winger.

Visitors can enjoy several of Ann’s creations, like the painting “Missoula Strong” Sunglass Hut.

The mural will be placed on the exterior wall next to the new westside mall entrance.
