POLSON — A crash Saturday evening in the Mission Valley left one person dead and another injured, bringing Montana’s fatality count to 38.
The Montana Highway Patrol responded to a call around 7 p.m. at mile marker 3.3 on Montana Highway 35, between Polson and Finley Point.
A pickup truck was traveling southbound when the driver, failed to negotiate a curve, overcorrected and went off the left side of the road.
The pickup then crossed over Fulkerson Lane and struck mailboxes before overturning and landing on its top.
The driver -- a 26-year-old man from Deer Lodge -- was flown to an area hospital. His passenger, a 24-year-old female from Ronan, was declared dead, according to MHP.
Neither the driver nor the passenger were wearing seatbelts, and alcohol and speed are believed to have played a role in the accident.
