MISSOULA – The sound of blues and power tools could be heard from Home ReSource over the weekend as their annual Spontaneous Construction event celebrated sustainable materials with a creative twist.

People of all ages and skill levels entered into a competition to design a piece from all recycled materials from Home ReSource’s inventory.

The event generated 27 pieces — from wind vanes to speakers — that will be judged and sold at auction to benefit sustainability programs.  There were also games and live music that welcomed folks into the yard.

“Home ReSource, our mission is to reduce waste — first and foremost — and also building a more sustainable, more vibrant and sustainable local economy,” Community Outreach Manager Jeremy Drake explained.

“And one of the ways that we get there is by getting people involved in re-use in a way that’s fun. It’s educational — people see the possibility of materials, and the value in materials so that we can start to value materials more,” he added.

Home ReSource’s auction which will showcase the products from the Spontaneous Construction event is set to take place in November.
