MISSOULA – Starting this week, the Missoula Police Department Crime Prevention Office is releasing a weekly report with recommendations to reduce chances of becoming a crime victim.
One of the most common crimes in Missoula is theft from a vehicle.
In 2018, MPD reported 767 cases of cars being broken into. MPD only had a few incidents of locked car break-ins last year. They also took 191 reports of stolen vehicles, and keys were left in the car in 90 percent of those incidents.
Most of the cars broken into last year were left unlocked with no sign of a forced entry.
The crime prevention report will be posted on the department’s Facebook page as a way to reach the broader community.
