MISSOULA – The Montana Department of Environmental Quality recently remediated two properties contaminated with lead, residual petroleum and arsenic in Missoula.
13 affordable housing units are being built on the sites, all with sale prices under $200,000.
The US Environmental Protection Agency’s Brownfields Program found petroleum and arsenic contaminated soil on the 1700 block of Montana Street. The nonprofit Homeword is now constructing six small homes on the site, which are expected to be complete by March.
The North Missoula Community Development Corporation is also constructing seven townhouses on East Front Street, after two feet of soil contaminated with lead was removed.
Housing units on both property sites are available to Missoulians making 80 percent or less of the Area Median Income.
Applications for the townhouses on East Front Street are available until February 1. To fill out an application or determine if you qualify for purchase go to the NMCDC website.
