MISSOULA – The famous groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil, did not see his shadow on Saturday, predicting an early spring.

The Roxy Theater in Missoula also shared its own groundhog day tradition again this year, with back to back showings of the Groundhog Day movie.

Over 100 people attended the marathon in hopes of winning free movies and popcorn for a year.

Strict rules like no sleeping, reading or ordering food to the theater try to keep movie goers hooked for seven showings of the flick.

Roxy Theater Executive Director Mike Steinberg said it’s not unusual for the theater to sell out shows, but he doesn’t think he’d make it through the marathon.

“It’s amazing. At 9:30 this morning, when we had 100 people here ready to watch this movie, there was this sense of excitement.”

Steinberg said there was a sense of camaraderie in the audience, and everyone made it through the first few showings.
