MISSOULA – Local sponsors led by Mission Ridge Church spent their Saturday packing food into pouches to help out the Missoula community.
The 10,000 Meals for Missoula event resulted in a number of meals much higher than the goal thanks to the dedication of those involved in the effort. At the end of the day, just under 11,000 boxes were prepared.
The 170 volunteers who took part were split into groups that packed and sealed individual pouches of food which were put into larger boxes to be delivered to their distribution destination.
All of the food being pack by members of the community will go to benefit Missoula kids.
“The meals from this event go to the Missoula Food Bank and specifically to their empower pack program which is a backpack program that helps give food to kids that struggle with hunger through the weekend,” said Mission Ridge Church Senior Pastor Paule Patterson.
“And they serve over 1,700 kids in just the Missoula areas just through that program and this allows them not just to meet that need but it helps them to free up some resources to meet other needs as well.”
The boxes were delivered to the Missoula Food Bank and the church hopes to hold the event on an annual basis.
