MISSOULA – The University of Montana has announced their plans to keep ASUM childcare in McGill Hall after extensive abatement, repair and maintenance work is done to the building.

The building was closed back in January because of elevated asbestos levels inside the structure.

Once the asbestos abatement work was completed in the building, it was reopened to students in March but ASUM childcare was kept in the education building on a short term basis until UM could figure out the best plan for it going forward.

Other options, such as using the Todd Building and the library at Missoula College, were considered.

But ultimately the University decided its best move was to go back to McGill Hall after it has been deemed safe enough for children.

Officials hope to have the facility opened by summer.
