BONNER – A project to upgrade the aging Bonner bridges near Interstate 90 will begin this week, slowing traffic traveling through the area.
The Montana Department of Transportation reports that drivers can expect all traffic to transition onto the eastbound bridge, and to be slowed down through the work zone.
The work begins before the Bonner interchange and ends past the second bridge deck.
The project includes construction of a pedestrian path under the bridges that will connect into the new Milltown State Park.
Improvements also include enhanced lighting and seating along the Blackfoot River under the bridges.
State transportation officials anticipate the project will be completed this fall.
Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks has closed the river in the area of the bridge work as a safety precaution.
