MISSOULA – The Missoula YWCA hosted a “Stand Against Racism” discussion forum on Sunday at the Missoula Senior Center.
“As a refugee, we’re also human beings. We are hard-working people. We do something good. It’s very difficult for us to get actually at once to get involved and to know everything,” refugee Chanda Chiambunda told MTN News.
The refugees partnered with the International Rescue Committee in Missoula and Montanans for Immigrant Justice to promote education.
The panel was stocked with immigration advocates covering how community members can support refugees.
“I didn’t realize quite how much activism is being done in the community specifically around immigration justice and all the services that are offered to you know undocumented, DACA recipients, refugees,” said Missoula YWCA Racial Justice Coordinator Meshayla Cox.
“I hope that this is a good first step with like bringing everyone together — kind of just showing community members that there are these resources and that there are ways to have a voice and help people out as well,” she added.
