MISSOULA – It’s officially marathon weekend here in Missoula.

The less daunting 5K race happened early Saturday morning and runners were greeted with some nice weather to kick off race weekend.

Every year the Missoula Marathon 5K kicks off the start to one of the best weekends here in Missoula — and each year runners from all 50 states come here to experience it all.

From 80 year old’s walking to mom’s breaking world records while pushing strollers, the weekend is special in its own way to each person.

One father in the National Guard overseas has three kids here and has even made it a tradition each year.

“I get the boys here every summer so we’ve actually had this planned out for about three months now. It’s just something we like to run and this is something we can do all together something we love, and it’s kind of a warm-up for me because I’m running the marathon tomorrow,” said Justin Myers.

And while Myers says the marathon is great competition, it’s the atmosphere that Missoula brings to the race that makes it so unique.

“My first impression when I got here was how many people were similar to me, similar interests,” Meyers said. “Lots of people in shape here, lot of people that value health and stuff like that.”

“You kind of get a happy vibe from people, there’s a lot of smiles and even though most of these folks are strangers to me we wave at each other, high five each other. Just a lot of moral. Just seems to be a really good event for Montana.”
