MISSOULA — Otherworld Brewery is looking to build their first brewery near DeSmet School on property in Missoula County.

But before they can, Otherworld still needs to get the county commissioners approval. County Planner Jamie Erbacher says the land off of Butler Creek Road that the brewery plans on using is currently unzoned.

But in order for the brewery to be hooked up to services like sewer and water, the property would need to be zoned by the county.

The current recommended land use designation for the property is neighborhood residential which gives the opportunity for small commercial properties to come into the area.

Otherworld Brewing owner Derek Hockenbrough is proposing an intent to zone for the area so his brewery or another small business could take advantage of that small commercial zoning.

The Missoula County Commission will hold a public hearing on Oct. 3 and will make their final decision on if the zoning will be approved.
