MISSOULA — Missoula Health Officer Ellen Leahy is set to retire soon and during a Thursday Board of Health meeting officials outlined the plans to find her replacement.

The Missoula City-County Board of Health is reviewing applicants and have already conducted 22 phone interviews. A sub-committee will continue to narrow down the pool and set up interviews with community groups.

Officials agreed during the meeting that hopefully there will be no more pandemics in the near future for the new Public Health Officer. But Missoula City Council member Amber Sherrill says this past year has shown the importance of this position.

"One thing that we have learned if we didn't already know it in this pandemic, is the fact that collaboration and all of these partnerships have really become critical,” Sherrill said.

The recruitment team is expected to make an offer to a final candidate by around mid-March.
