MISSOULA — An educator who is already well-known to many Missoula teachers and staff is going to be filling the new position of assistant superintendent for Missoula County Public Schools.

Superintendent Rob Watson announced today that Russ Lodge has been selected for the new position after a selection and interview process that lasted for the past several weeks.

Lodge is very familiar with MCPS operations, having worked as principal for many years at Russell Elementary and Hellgate High School.

He's been working as an elementary principal at Deer Park, Washington outside Spokane. Prior to that, he worked as an elementary principal for four years in Sequim, Washington.

Watson says the interviews showed Lodge has "patience and kindness" and an "excellent communicator" who applies careful thought to decision making and is open to new ideas.

MCPS trustees approved the new position a few weeks ago as part of Watson's recommendations to revise the district's administrative team.

Lodge will begin his new assignment on July 1.
