MISSOULA — While the terrible events of 9/11 still seem fresh in our minds, there's a rising generation who didn't experience the terror and uncertainty of that September morning.

However, on-going events such as Missoula's 9/11 "Never Forget Service" are making sure the patriotism, and lessons from those terror attacks don't fade away.

As they have every year since the attacks in New York, Washington and the aborted Flight 93, veterans, parents, firefighters, police and organizations like the VFW gathered at Rose Park Wednesday evening to remember the nearly 3,000 killed in the attacks.

Thousands of lost lives were represented by tiny flags but the event has expanded over the years to honor other victims of violence, and the men and women who still sacrifice to keep us safe.

Amongst the crowd, more youngsters now who are hearing of a day that brought Americans together -- a valuable lesson in these times of discord.

Organizers are pledging to keep this event going every year.
