MISSOULA — A well-known fixture in the Missoula running community has passed away.
Run Wild Missoula states on its website that Missoula Marathon race director Tony Banovich passed away in his sleep on Tuesday night.
"Please respect his family's privacy as they work through this unimaginable loss. There will be more details forthcoming on a possible celebration of his life," the statement reads.
KPAX had the privilege to work with Tony over the last several years as media partners covering the Missoula Marathon.
Tony's enthusiasm for running was contagious bringing that enjoyment to thousands across the United States who descended on Missoula every summer weekend.
