MISSOULA — We are making an effort to highlight businesses that are still open to the community.

Businesses are having to get creative with social distancing practices and with acres of plants to walk through at Missoula's Caras Nursery and Landscape, that's hardly a problem.

The business has been a staple of the community for 100 years.

Third-generation owner Bill Caras says they are reminding people to stay six feet apart.

"We'd like to not have to lay everybody off, that would be really sad. Beyond that, we'd like people to get out in their garden, which is one of the few places they can go right now."

Longtime customer Patricia Nord told MTN News that she's glad Caras is still open, “for me it's like going out there and meditating, digging in the dirt, and I can forget everything else that's going on around me."

"It's spring and you can't stop nature. So even though our lives are a little bit on hold, things are growing, things need to be planted, and people want to grow food,” Caras said.

He noted that most of the plants are outside which makes it easier for employees and customers to keep their space, “it's getting to be the planting time, and there's no stopping that train. We just have to adjust to the new reality right now."

Caras Nursery and Landscape is also offering pickup and delivery options for people who don't want to walk the grounds. Call (406) 543-3333 for more information.
