The Lewis & Clark County Fairgrounds hosted a “Preparedness Fair” on Saturday.
More than 30 businesses and other organizations like the American Red Cross, Lewis & Clark County Public Health, and Lewis & Clark County Search and Rescue, had booths at the Fair from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.
Admission was free for all children and parents, and there was food and raffle prizes.
Exhibitors showed off how their products can keep you and your family safe in case of a natural disaster or emergency.
One key point of the event was was educating people about being prepared with supplies you may need in the event of an emergency or disaster. A disaster kit is an easy-to-carry emergency preparedness kit that you can use at home or take with you in case you must evacuate.
A highlights of the event was the Helena Boy Scouts showcasing their “fire starting challenge” to peers and family.
Teagan Clement, 12, a seventh-grader at C.R. Anderson Middle School and Boy Scout veteran since he was seven, told MTN how the fair was special for him and his fellow Scouts.
He said, “We all know we live in Montana, and it is very prone to incidents like fires and floods so um, we need to be prepared for anything that Montana throws our way.”
