Blowing and drifting snow, along with areas of dense fog, have prompted Blackfeet Law Enforcement Services in Browning to issue a travel warning.

BLES said in a Facebook post on Tuesday afernoon that it is recommending only "emergency travel on ALL ROADS! please stay off of them and let the plows do their work. Route 1 (Heart Butte Rd) is closed. If you do travel in this weather it will be at your own risk."

In addition, Browning Public School announced that classes would be released early at 2:30 p.m. due to the weather.

The National Weather Service in Great Falls says that the snow is moving south and east toward Great Falls, and cautions: "Expect visibilities to deteriorate quickly in areas of snow. While roads may initially be only wet this afternoon, with the loss of sunlight this afternoon the snow will begin to stick to the roads and result in slushy and slick conditions. Allow extra time to travel this afternoon and through the overnight hours."

Significant snow accumulation, anywhere from 4 to 12 inches, is expected along the Rocky Mountain Front, and south of a line from Great Falls to Jordan.

Snow will continue to fall in Central and Southern Montana through the night and into Wednesday morning. This snow will likely impact the Wednesday morning commute. Remember to take it slow when driving on snowy or icy roads. Even as the snow wraps up Wednesday, we'll still be dealing with the cold. Lows will be in the teens early Wednesday, and will stay below freezing through the day.
