On Saturday, the fall tradition of “ York Fest ” brought friends and family to celebrate with a host of activities from live music to the most anticipated event, the Trout Creek Duck Race.

York has hosted the festival to not only celebrate the arrival of autumn, but to support its volunteer fire department.

The festival kicked-off with a firefighter breakfast and lunch, followed by a pitchfork steak fondue and lunch with vendors displaying goods for sale during the community fair.

Live music was performed by musician Dan Henry and by 4:00 p.m. the “mighty ducks” were let loose.

The ducks are dropped into Trout Creek, and the first one to reach a finish line several hundred feet downstream earns the person who bought it a prize.

Duck race participant Emily Mcvey said, “We have never been out to York Fest before, so we decided to come out and support the rural fire department and check out the duck race.”

And this year’s winner for the 2019 Trout Creek Duck Race was none other than York’s Fire Chief John Naylor’s lovely bride Rita.

Each duck was just five dollars and all proceeds went to support the York’s volunteer fire department.

The fire department uses fundraisers like this to pay for equipment, training and other improvements they wouldn’t be able to afford on the base budget alone.
