BOZEMAN – The Bozeman Police Department has identified Sergeant Ben Green as the officer involved in a fatal shooting early Friday morning.

Bozeman Police Chief Steve Crawford said in a statement that Sgt. Green “is a veteran officer” with over 12½ years of service with Bozeman Police.

Following the shooting, Bozeman police officers are now being offered counseling services.

Officers have the opportunity to take part in counseling all year long and whenever there is a traumatic event they go through what is called crisis stress management.

The program shows the officers the physical and mental signs that they should watch out for, and ways to get help.

“There is help and there is not anything that anybody needs to be ashamed of. I think the old days of you just suck it up and truck on are over with and we understand the importance of taking care of your mental health,” said Hal Richardson with the Bozeman Police Department.

Families of the officers and people who witnessed the shooting also receive counseling services.

Sergeant Green is on paid administrative leave during an internal review of the incident, which Crawford says is departmental policy.

The Montana Division of Criminal Investigation is continuing its investigation into the incident.
