Bozeman man dies in southwest Montana avalanche

BOZEMAN – The Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office reports that a skier was killed after being caught in an avalanche in the Bridger Mountain Range.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, around 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sheriff’s Search and Rescue, the Bridger Ski Patrol, the Gallatin National Forest  Avalanche Center and Central Helicopters responded to an avalanche on the west side of the Bridgers.

Two skiers in the area observed another skier, who was caught in the avalanche and were able to locate him quickly. They attempted to resuscitate him, but the man died at the scene.

The Sheriff’s Office said in a media release that the victim is a 36-year-old Bozeman man. His identity will be withheld until next of kin can be notified.
