BUTTE – After Butte was pounded by heavy snowfall this week, maintenance crews are working hard to try to keep the streets clear and open to traffic.
“This is a big storm. It’s all hands on deck right now, we’re working two shifts, late hours, everybody’s trying to keep up,” said Operations Engineer Tim Shea.
More than a dozen workers hit the streets at 3 o’clock in the morning and will work into the evening hours. Monday’s constant snowfall forced the crews to continually plow the city’s busiest streets.
“We have to keep our main snow routes open, so we have to go back to those two or three times. Then we can start picking up when the snow lets off,” said Shea.
So these graters are scooping up all the snow they’ve got piled up in the middle of the roads and they’re putting them the dump trucks and they’ll take them to various dump sites around the city. Now, they’re working as fast as they can, but it is slow going because they are pickup up a lot of snow.
“You know, every block is about 10 trucks worth of snow, so there’s a lot of snow to pick up,” said Shea.
While it has been difficult for motorists to get through the snow, the crews just ask the public for one thing: “A little bit of patience, little bit of patience. We’ll be out of your way in no time,” he said.
