VAUGHN — For some horse owners, snow and ice means hanging up the saddle and giving their horse some time off. But with their indoor riding arenas, the 406 Arena makes winter riding more safe and comfortable.
“You have to be really careful when you’re riding outside, mostly because if there’s snow on the ground, you’re not sure what the terrain is underneath,” said Jessica Fryberger, owner of 406 Arena.
“There could be ice, or something slippery, or holes, things you just can’t see so you have to really careful riding outside, not going too fast, going places you’re unfamiliar with. You can still ride outside, you just have to be a little extra cautious," Fryberger stated.
The 406 Arena's indoor facility contains a large main arena, a medium-sized arena, and a small arena to accommodate as many riders as possible. There are also grandstands, an announcer's booth, concessions stands, and 32 indoor stalls.
The 406 Arena also offers boarding and long-term care, riding lessons, and outdoor arenas and trails to ride when the weather allows.
“I help out the vaulting team, and then I also ride a couple of our own horses and I train young horses for ourselves and other people,” said Carter Fryberger, an instructor at 406 Arena.
The Fryberger family has been farming and ranching in the Sun River Valley for 16 years and in the Fall of 2018, opened the 406 Arena to offer their services to riders.
