The warm weather on Friday created a rare chance for some fun and camaraderie out on the golf course in January.

The greens at Yegen Golf Course in Billings might still be thawing and a little fast, according to Connor Rakowski, assistant golf professional.

"Rock hard greens and British Open golf, " Rakowski said.

Close to 60 golfers played the course, and several others went to the driving range and the practice green.

Many years, there is no golf from December to around the end of March.

"It's amazing, said Tim Calderwood, who practiced on the green. "A week ago Friday, when I was working over there at Senior (High School), I was freezing to death. And today, it is very nice."

"It's a bucket list thing, and I'm glad I got the opportunity to do it," said Carson Colgrove, who played nine holes. "I"m a golfing environmentalist. I like to get out in the trees and off the fairways. Maybe you can ask somebody else how the fairways are. I didn't find out today. But I got out in January and that's all I'm happy about."

About 300 rounds have been played in January.

Rakowski said a normal month in the summer at Yegen would be 3,500 to 5,500 rounds,
