The body that was recovered from the Yellowstone River on July 22 has been identified as Troy Gardner, age 54, of Billings, according to Yellowstone County Sheriff Mike Linder.
An autopsy has been performed and no obvious trauma or evidence of foul play was discovered.
Toxicology or other lab results will not be available for several weeks. The cause of death is undetermined at this time.
Investigators were able to use fingerprints to help in the identification process. It's unknown how long Gardner was in the river.
So far, the investigation has determined that Gardner's last known contact was with a family member on or near July 15.
