A Bozeman man died Saturday after crashing into a semi on Homestake Pass, according to the Montana Highway Patrol.

MHP said the 42-year-old man was driving with a 23-year-old Bozeman woman in a 2001 Audi A-6 when the incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

The man was traveling on I-90 eastbound at a high rate of speed when he lost control and rear-ended a slow-moving Freightliner semi and trailer.

The vehicle left the road on the right side and crashed into an embankment around mile marker 236.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman was transported to St. James Hospital in Butte with unknown injuries. Neither was wearing a seatbelt.

The driver of the semi, a 67-year-old Indianapolis man, was not injured and was wearing a seatbelt.

MHP said speed, drugs, and alcohol are all suspected factors in the crash.

No names of people involved in the incident have been released, and no further details, including the woman's current condition, was available.

We will update this story if we get more information.
