HELENA — Daughters of the American Revolution is a women’s service organization dedicated to preserving history and honoring those of the Revolutionary War and for Memorial Day, they visited the grave of members who served in the past.

“It's a nice tribute, remembering our fallen. They've served our country and that's why America is free,” says Evelyn Sass, a D.A.R. member.

There are about 115 flags that need to be placed across 18 different cemeteries. Each volunteer is given a list of names and a map of where those names are located.

“Well I hope others will come out and see the flags when they honor their own families and visit with them,” says Alene Stoner, a volunteer.

“It can be sad, but it can be a happy occasion also. And, bring your kids and tell them who this grandma was or this uncle or grandpa. History is wonderful. We need to learn more about history,” says Evelyn.

Members of the Sons of the American Revolution also volunteered in the flagging.
