GREAT FALLS — The Lewistown Police Department said on Friday that a man died after a pickup truck he was working on fell on him.

Assistant Police Chief Jonathan Polich identified the man as Jason Haivala of Forest Grove in Fergus County; Haivala was 48 years old, according to a family member.

Polich said in a news release that emergency crews were called to the 100 block of SW Ash Street in Lewistown on Thursday just after 7 p.m. for a report of an unresponsive man trapped underneath his pickup truck.

The man was taken by ambulance to Central Montana Medical Center in Lewistown, where he was pronounced dead.

The initial investigation indicates that Haivala was performing repairs under the pickup truck when it rolled on top of him.

The investigation is continuing, and an autopsy will be performed.

Responding agencies included Lewistown Police Department, Fergus County Sheriff's Office, Lewistown Fire Department, and Central Montana Medical Center Ambulance.

On behalf of the agencies, Polich extended condolences to Haivala's family.
