BUTTE — Authorities report that a 60-year-old Helena man died while driving a semi-truck on Homestake Pass in Jefferson County just east of Butte Monday morning.
The Montana Highway Patrol suspects that driver may have suffered some kind of medical problem while traveling westbound in Interstate-90 near Pipestone at about 4:20 a.m.
The truck stalled on the pass, rolled backward and jackknifed on the highway.
The victim’s cause of death was still under investigation.
One of the tanks the driver was hauling ruptured, and spilled hot road tar on to the highway.
The westbound lane of I-90 was closed for about two hours.
