Missing woman found dead in Big Horn County; police suspect homicide

UPDATE, 11 p.m.: Billings police said a missing woman has been found dead, and her case is now being investigated as a homicide.

According to the Billings Police Department, officers initially responded around 9:20 a.m. on April 24, 2026, to a report of a missing 35-year-old woman identified as Shawna Katherine Grove, also known as Shawna Katherine Hart.

During the investigation, detectives developed information that led them to a vehicle believed to be connected to Grove. The vehicle was later located in Big Horn County, where Grove was found deceased inside.

Authorities have not released additional details about the circumstances surrounding her death but confirmed the case is being investigated as a homicide. They did not identify a suspect.

A friend told MTN News the disappearance was domestic-violence related.

The investigation remains ongoing, and officials said more information will be released as it becomes available.

The Billings Police Department thanked several partner agencies for their assistance, including the Yellowstone County Sheriff’s Office, the Bureau of Indian Affairs, and the Montana Highway Patrol.

Billings police are seeking help finding a missing woman.

Shawna Katherine Grove, also known as Shawna Katherine Hart, is 5 feet 1 to 5 feet 2 inches tall with blue eyes and blonde hair. She weighs about 135 pounds.

She was last seen getting into a blue Chevy Traverse, pictured above.

A friend of Hart's told MTN News that this is believed to be a domestic violence situation.
