Governor Steve Bullock ordered all flags in Montana to be flown at half-staff on Sunday, Oct. 6, to honor the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service and Fire Prevention Week .
In a statement from the Governor's Office on Friday, Bullock said Montana this year passed the Firefighter Protection Act, "showing firefighters the respect and appreciation they and their families deserve for putting their long-term health on the line."
"For every firefighter of today and for those who will one day be called to service, Montana is committed to delivering the care and support for them and their families," Bullock said in the statement.
Each year, a memorial service is held at The National Fallen Firefighters Memorial in Emmitsburg, Maryland. Fire Prevention Week was first proclaimed in the United States in 1925 by President Calvin Coolidge.
