GREAT FALLS — The investigation into the death of Sally Smith of Great Falls continues.

Cascade County Sheriff Jesse Slaughter conducted a virtual news conference on Tuesday to address Smith’s death.

Smith was found dead in a car in a storage locker near Malmstrom Air Force Base on Oct. 11; she had been missing since Sept. 29.

Sheriff Slaughter said he understands people are frustrated by the lack of information about the investigation.

He said it was still too early Tuesday to come to any conclusions, especially because the autopsy results had not come back yet.

"With this job, you trust me to do the right thing and to release the right information. It's really important to me that I don't violate that trust and rush a media release which later I may have to recant or change and then create a lack of trust,” Slaughter said.

He also said it was also too early to release any information about the investigation into the death of Brendan Rollins, theyoung man who died while hiking in the Sluice Boxes area over the weekend.
