Butte is known as the Mining City, and mining is a big part of the education on the Montana Tech campus.

Tech’s Mining Engineering program is celebrating 120 years, and it is one of only 14 programs of the kind in the nation. The program’s department head, associate professor Scott Rosenthal, and Professor Paul Conrad talked about the program LIVE with Montana This Morning’s Chet Layman.
According too Montana Tech, job placement is almost guaranteed with graduation in Mining Engineering. Professor Conrad also teaches a course in Environmental controls for the mining industry. Both men note that their program has changed as the attitude towards environmental protection has changed. Professor Rosenthal also notes having an actual mine on campus makes the Montana Tech program more hands on than most around the country.
