TAMPA, Fla. — An investigation is underway in Florida after a shooting on Thursday killed a couple just days after they welcomed their second child.

Tampa police responded to the 1700 block of West Walnut Street shortly after 7 a.m. after receiving a report of shots being heard in the area.

There officers found Stanley Peck and Tia Pittman suffering from gunshot wounds. Police say Peck died at the scene and Pittman was taken to a local hospital where she died from her injuries.

“Whoever did this, it don’t make no sense to do them like that. They was good people.," said Djala Peck, Stanley Peck's sister.

Peck’s sister says she can’t understand why someone would want to kill him and the mother of his children, Pittman.

The family says the couple just welcomed their second child, a baby girl. Both of the couple's children were home at the time of the shooting.

Family members say the two moved back to Tampa because Peck’s father had cancer. He died in June.

“Every time you see him, just positive vibes. All he did was go to work, come home," said Peck's niece, Genitta Jackson.

Tampa Police say they don’t know why someone shot the couple or who might have been involved.

They're searching the West Tampa home for anything that might help lead them to the killer.

“No answers for it. Don’t nobody know nothing. Nobody seen anything," said Jackson.

Maurice Duvermon owns the home where the family was living. Peck just gave him a ride to work this morning.

“They were alright. They were cool people. They ain’t mess with nobody," said Duvermon.

“They didn’t deserve what happened to them," said Djala Peck.
