BUTTE — In late September, a five-month-old child was found dead inside of a car with her mother, who was asleep, in Butte.

Butte Police are starting to paint a picture of what happened, but they are still left with questions.

Police are still awaiting the autopsy on the victim, which should be done by next week. As of Friday, no one has been detained and no charges have been filed in the matter.

George Skuletich, the Butte Silver Bow undersheriff says the mother and the father of the victim were in the process of moving out of their butte home the morning of the incident.

“There was an argument, it wasn’t physical, and she just left the residence with her 2-year-old and their infant,” Skuletich said.

Police are awaiting all the final reports in this investigation before they determine if there will be any charges filed.

“We had a debrief on it, and everybody was very much affected by it,” Skuletich said. “It’s just a tragedy all the way around. It’s sad.”

Police say the mother has been cooperative during this investigation.
