HAMILTON – The heavy snowfall that’s been piling up in the Bitterroot is forcing some closures in Hamilton.

The Ravalli County Sheriff’s Office reports that only essential and emergency County Offices will be open on Tuesday.

The offices that are open will be lightly staffed, so citizens should expect short delays and waits for services, according to a news release.

The schedule change is due to the amount of snow and employee safety concerns. Ravalli County officials say they expect all offices to be open as normal on Wednesday.

The winter weather has caused travel concerns with the Sheriff’s Office was advising “emergency travel only” in the Bitterroot Valley on Monday.

Most Bitterroot Valley schools canceled school for the second day in a row on Tuesday due to the weather conditions. The Bitterroot National Forest Office also announced that they would be closed for the day.

Additionally, Hamilton officials have announced that the Committee of the Whole meeting scheduled for Tuesday evening at City Hall has been canceled.

The City of Hamilton declared a “snow emergency” on Monday due to the winter weather.
