HAMILTON — A funeral service was held on Sunday for the 16-year-old Hardin girl that had been missing for nearly three weeks.

Selena Not Afraid’s body was found in a field in Big Horn County on Jan. 20 with preliminary autopsy results determining that the teen died of hypothermia.

The Hamilton community will hold a candlelight vigil on Monday on the Ravalli County Courthouse Lawn where they’ll remember not only Selena, but the countless Indigenous people that are still missing.

Selena’s aunt, Cheryl Horn, says these vigils have played a major role in guiding the family through this difficult time, and she thanks the community for their support.

“We feel all the positive love and vibes when everybody takes the time out of their day to go stand and light a candle," Horn said. "People can make any choice as to how they'll spend 24 hours a day, and if they choose to spend it praying for others and Selena, then we’re thankful for that.”

The community is encouraged to wear red and bring their own candles to the vigil which will begin at 7 p.m. on Monday.
