Suspect apprehended after firing multiple gunshots in the University District

MISSOULA — A male has been taking into custody by the Missoula Police Department after reportedly firing multiple shots in the University District.

According to MPD Public Information Officer Sargent Travis Welsh, At 1:44 p.m. MPD responded to reports of a male firing multiple shots from a rifle on the 200 block of East Beckwith Avenue.

Welsh says a witness told police the suspect was firing shots at a car facing eastbound on Beckwith Ave.

When Police arrived on the scene and engaged the suspect, he went back inside with the weapon before returning outside with his hands up and no weapon and surrendered to police.
