The Holter Museum of Art Afterschool Teen Arts Council (ATAC) is raising money to paint the Helena downtown sidewalks.
These paintings will serve as an art mural in Helena Downtown on the corner of East Lawrence Street and Last Chance Gulch.
It’s named the "Attack Encounter Project." The teenagers in the council decided to paint the sidewalks with features representing Helena and the state of Montana.
After 10 months of input from the city and neighboring businesses, the teens plan to begin painting the sidewalk September 25-26th, 2020. Their mentor and coordinator feels the teens have already accomplished the project.
“I think the project is successful already because of all the process of: learning, building a partnership with our community, the teens getting together to envision themselves in the community,” says Janaina Vieira-Marques, Holter Museum of Art Artist-In-Residence. “It has been done and painting the crosswalks is just a little bit more to beautify our city."
The fundraiser will go towards purchasing equipment for the teens to complete the project on September 25th-26th, 2020.
