MISSOULA – Goats, puppies, kittens and even miniature horses gathered with their owners at the Missoula County Fairgrounds over the weekend for a festival to celebrate our favorite furry friends.

Doggie Olympics, a best-dressed contest and vendors were part of the event aimed to raise awareness about the importance of adopting from a shelter or rescue group as well as avoiding adopting from a puppy mill.

Event organizers said that the Humane Society of Western Montana adopted out all of the dogs they brought in while the Thompson River Animal Care Shelter found homes for 17 of the 19 animals they brought in for adoption.

The few who have yet to find their new owners are still up for adoption at Thompson River Animal Care Shelter. You can click here for more information about pet adoption.
